This word in my memory came from my mom. It is impressed so deeply that I applied it to my only child. I recently learned that it is a Chinese saying. The meaning is that the early childhood education is so important that it will affect one's whole life. The character and personality formed by three years of age is going be that of the adult. This old Chinese saying is similar to "the child is father of the man", by William Wordsworth. The saying can also be translated as, "Childhood shows the man, as morning shows the day."
one of my friend give me the word in English says "A child's (character/intelligence/behavior?) is set by the time they are three years old"
ReplyDeleteI disagree to a certain extent, because the transition from adolescence to adulthood can deeply affect one's character and the way one looks at the world. the process of maturing and the coming of age can really change the way one acts and thinks about things and many other aspects of one's life. Of course this saying holds some truth, because the early childhood education is important and fundamental, but the child doesn't necessarily show the man, because there could definitely be changes.
ReplyDeleteI agree you many facets of the man changes during his maturing process. However, Can you still see any facets of the man, which had been developing in the man's early childhood? I believe a study from the view of science would give a proof. I mean, study how brain develops.
