SIDS, the abbreviation of Sudden infant death syndrome, is an un-explainable sudden death of an infant under one year of age. SIDS is the first leading cause of death among infants 1 month to 1 year old. There are about 2,500 Cases each year in the United States, and " A total of 2,453 SIDS deaths in 2007." The risk of SIDS can be reduced by no smoking no drinking, or no drug use during pregnancy, no overheating from excessive sleepwear and bedding, sleeping on back.
I chose this topic because infant under 1 normally sleep about 3 hours during the daytime. and most SIDS cases were found while the infants were sleeping at crib. This is important because the child caregivers might help reduce the risk of SIDS by placing the infants sleep on their back, and checking infants often while they are sleeping as recommended. This is practicable in daily routine while working with young infants.
SIDS cases were reported world wide. but I could not find a report from China. It does not mean there is no case in China.
