You were my best friend,
a girl friend I met in college.
You climbed in my bed at night
when you felt scared,
when you felt home sick.
We slept in one bed liked my bio-sister
who
and I used to use one bed.
We were paired walking in and out.
We were paired chatting
while walking for class picnic.
Until one day,
we were quested,
"Are you gay?"
The confusing was in our eyes.
We looked each other
because we had never heard the term,
and did not understand.
The smiling faces were the answer.
"Are you gay?"
"What do you think?" with the
smiling face.
"Are you gay?"
Our smiling faces were the answer.
The questions did not get us.
We were normal through the four years
of roommates in the college.
We are still friends
and have other friends.
We went through dating our boys by dating
season.
We went through marriage of our husbands
by the marriage season.
We went through giving birth by the
birth season,
Everything went through normal.
Sometime, ignorant is the best.
Sometimes, ignorant is perfect.
Sometimes, ignorant is from a pure
heart.
Sometimes, ignorant is from an honest
heart.
Sara,
ReplyDeleteThis poem brings a lot of clarity into the topic of cultural norms and like you stated, ignorance. Many people make assumptions by what they see and don't think any further. Many times when I walk holding my mom's hand, we get funny looks from people too. Thanks for sharing.
Sara,
ReplyDeleteI love your poem! It is so true. Thank you so much for sharing.

Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your poem. I enjoyed creating an image in my head of two friends who were so close that from outsiders looking in would suspect that they are gay. This poem made me think of relationships. Some people form such strong of bonds that they would go as far as saying "I love you" to them, even if they are just friends. And in my eyes, there is nothing wrong with it :-)
Sara,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this creative poem! It surely makes me think back to when people were saying that my cousin and I were gay. We did everything together; slept, ate, shopping, and got our hair done just alike. It bothered me a lot when people teased us about it but we eventually got over it once we were older. I know what other children are going through when they are faced with this. Thanks for sharing!
