Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

The three local or state organizations or communities of practice I choose are Bright from the Start, Head Start, and Bright Horizons Family Solution.
First, Bright from the Start is the name of Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning. It is a state organization. The reason I chose this organization is because Bright from the Start work with thousands of child care providers, school systems, and state and national child advocacy organizations to ensure that hundreds of thousands of Georgia’s children receive high quality child care and early learning experiences in safe and healthy environments. There is an interest job opening.

  2. Sara,
Thanks for sharing the agencies. I find it amazing to see how many job opportunities their are for new and veteran EC professionals out their. I have actually thought about changing my role in the community recently. Even was offered a position in Okinawa a few months ago as a director of a child development center, but turned it down because of a bad time for my family. Thanks for sharing again!

  3. Sara,
Sounds like there are some great opportunities in your community! Do you think these positions pay well. One thing we have run into with my organization is being able to pay early childhood professionals what they are worth. Is that any issue for you?

  4. Dalhia,
Compare to other field, I do not think the professionals in the early childhood field get paid what they are worth. We have discussed in a previouse course, This is an issue.

  7. Great post Sara! I enjoyed reading about the organizations you chose to share with us and was especially pleased to see that the program you work for requests knowledge of the NAEYC Accreditation process; a rigorous process, but worthwhile. I had a similar position with the state of MT for over 6 years as the one you described with the state of Georgia. I learned so much in that position and continue to use those skills and connections in my current work. I also worked as the Early Childhood Development Specialist in a Head Start program before my current job providing training a technical assistance for Head Start and Early Start programs. I think the Head Start model and philosophies get into your heart.

  9. Sara, what is your role for Bright Horizons? Bright Horizons sounds like a great program for families and children. I particularly liked thier mission statement for children.

"The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and families. Our support programs serve at-risk children, instilling positive self-concepts and self esteem; providing nurturing, creative environments; and supporting and facilitating the development of strong families."
